.... described as a " socially conscious art collective”

Magpie was established as a Studio in 1998 by Cape Craft Icon Scott B. Hart and Social Entrepreneur Shane A. Petzer (Ashoka Fellow).

In 2003 Magpie relocated from Cape Town to the Barrydale Studio where they are now based.

In 2006 Magpie expanded and Fine Artist Sean Daniel and his partner Administrator Richard Panaino joined to make up the MagpieArtCollective.

The Magpie's believe the work they do links art and design with meaningful

commercial,  social entrepreneurism integrated with environmental concern. Their

whimsical, charming and bespoke creations are produced from a broad range of

medium and often incorporate repurposed and found or recycled elements into their enchanting works.

In addition to the Studio creations, they undertake commissions and installations and participate in exhibitions. Magpie also produces a range of exciting craft-project-linked products.

The Rooi Doppies Project is their social action framework. Through this conceptual project they link themselves as a collective to their surrounding community by engagement with local community income generation projects, crafters and civil society endeavours.

From design, through to execution the Magpie's believe their work reflects their philosophy and innovative approach.
