Magpie was established as a Studio in 1998 by Cape Craft Icon Scott B. Hart
and Social Entrepreneur Shane A. Petzer (Ashoka Fellow).
In 2003 Magpie relocated from Cape Town to Barrydale.
In 2006 Fine Artist Sean Daniel and Administrator
Richard Panaino joined to expand the Studio into the MagpieArtCollective.
The Magpie Collective believes the work they do often links art and design with
meaningful commercial and social entrepreneurism integrated with environmental concern.
Their whimsical, charming and bespoke creations are produced from a broad range of
medium and often incorporate repurposed and found or recycled elements into their
